I think it's an anatomical likeness, with a couple of eyes thrown in.

ok it IS the capitol letter upsilon with dialytika acording to the Unicode Standard 5.1, it is 03AB

I'm up @ 3:30 - 4:00 most every morning - asleep by 9 or 9:30 pm. But, to your real point, I like to try to "head it off at the pass" if possible.
