Worked for me and I'm old (48) and happily married. Wanting "different" (not really "less") can pay off very nicely. When you do buy stuff, buy quality, and when practical buy used so the other S0B eats the depreciation. Learn to fix almost everything you own, and even expensive tools pay for themselves. Unlike when you pay someone else, you get to keep the tools and the even more valuable experience.
