We have a pretty tough spot to bring our camper into the yard and turn around. With my older 350 use to come in and had to keep jacking it tight going forwards and backwards to get turned around. Now with my 450 I can just come in while in 4 wheel drive in soft sand spin it around and head back out in a tight area as you will see in the pictures. Area is only about 45' wide. I normally do not stop but did to take the pictures. Then I back it up a slight grade to get it in position. The wide track comes in useful in a lot of different situations.
I tried to order this option for an F350 DRW 4x4 with 3.73 gears. Ford would not allow the option. Only allowed if you order 4.10's or greater. F350 only. Bummer.
Stupid question. What is Wide track or what is the difference?? I have a SRW CCLB.
No question is ever stupid, that is how we all learn. Some comments sometimes can be stupid. Originally only the 450 had wide track that was standard. The front wheels are extended out a couple inches because of the wide-track monobeam front suspension. It adds more wheel-well space giving it a shorter turning diameter. You will notice the 450s like Firehawks has extended wheel wells. It is now offered on 350DRWs. I did not realize like tr2162 said that it is not available with 3.73s which is odd. Maybe in 2009. The Wide-track in the crew cab DRW turns as tight as a standard cab SRW. I can back out our tight driveway better than my wife can with Car
The wide track steering is possibly the best thing since bread was sliced. On our regular cab F450 ambulance, I have no doubt that it you weren't careful you could easily flip it over by cornering too hard.
