After having fixed all the little things, I finally got around to washing and waxing the X. I used Nufinish on it and it took a half bottle to finish it. I believe it has never been waxed before with the way it soaked it up. I also used leather conditioner on the enterior but didn't bother with pictures of that.
You should of used a clay bar on it and then waxed it. You would be amazed with the crap the clay bar will take off of the surface. Nevertheless, it still looks good.
I wish I had the stamina and patience to finish a job that big! I can barely handle waxing my camaro lol. I would get a quote from a professional shop, but I'm afraid I would have a heart attack!
I agree with the clay bar. I did mine and it looks great. You can't believe the crap that comes off with the clay bar plus you get a great foundation to wax/polish. I used Zaino polish and highly recommend it. I did it about a year ago and it looks great.
I didn't do the roof yet and I'm not looking forward to it either.
I clay bar the cars, but I don't have the patience to claybar the X. Maybe next year. I really just wanted to make sure I had a good thick coating of wax on it before the first snow. As you can see in the pics, there is some minor body work that needs to be done. I think that will be the next step in the project. Get the dinks, dents and paint fixed up. Thanks for the compliments.
As for the Browns, yes they have been disappointing this year....but hopefully they can salvage the rest of the season. Still plenty of games to play.
Racer....you would wash the vehicle first...then I use a mixture of car wash soap and water in one of those pump-up misters to spray an area (to lube the claybar) then slide the claybar around to pick up the dirt, bugs, sap, etc. Then dry the surface.
You can use an instant detail type spray but it's much more costly and does no better a job.
When the clay gets dirty...you kneed it to a clean side and keep going. I prefer Zaino's claybar as you get two sizeable bars in the jar. (Most companies sell the spray with the clay..which I don't use anyhow)
Interesting side note...a company holds the patent on claybars...and every one sold pays them a royalty.
I use Zaino's sealant/polish, and have found 1 ounce does the whole truck. Applying any product too thickly does not yield better results. The paint will only hold so much. Applying too thick and buffing off only wastes product, increases drying time, etc.
By not using a clay bar first, all your doing is sealing in all the contaminants on the surface that the clay bar would of other wise removed. Waxing it is better than nothing though, especially with winter coming up.
