I believe that's a grease fitting. If you don't index it right you won't be able to get to the grease fitting.
No. It was the actual lower ball joints themselves. There was a sort of channel in the rubber of the joint and that channel had to point towards the center of the truck. I don't remember why and I'm not sure if it really makes all that much different. But the directions said to put it in a certain way so I did.
Yes you also need to orient the grease fitting so your gun will reach it as well. But you can fine tune those with a wrench once everything is put back together if you have to.

Pinellas is correct. The aftermarket MOOG lower ball joints have to be oriented a certain way before you press them in. Not sure why but that's what the instructions state so that's how i installed them...
Ive been having the same issue...... I used to be a Tech so I know my way around the garage my only issue is a place to do the work. My new house sits on a hill and my driveway is a hill aswell so I wont get under a car on a Hill. But lucky for me I work in a school that just started an auto repair program. So the teacher said if I teach the kids what Im doing Ill have free rein of the garage there. So I said screw it and bought all new control arms and ball joints and tire rods too. Cost me about 200 bucks for parts and ill buy pizza for the class too. So tomorrow hack school will be in session!
