A couple months ago i bought a 2004 ranger ranger edge with a 3.0L that was totaled, anyway been fixin it up. I Was wondered wat actually works on here to get a little more torque and hp out of the 3.0l, it struggles a little bit when pullin my fourwheeler up a grade.... And also wouldnt mind helpin the gas mpg out. Anyways was just curious wat any of yal have done that worked....
The 3 best mods to improve hp and torque on your 3.0 would be 1) gears, at least 4:10's. 2) a bama engine programer, A lot of us on here have bama, it's good for 8-12 hp increase and 15-20 torque pounds as it retunes the engine. 3) A set of under drive pullies, unleashes some usable torque. I can't say enough about how well the bama engine programer works, you just plug it in to the pcm port, push a couple of buttons and you have instant hp and torque increase. It comes with 3 different tunes for different octane levels and desired result. My 3 tunes were, 87 octane mpg tune, 92 ocatne torque tune and 93 octane hp tune. Even the 87 octane mpg tune increased the hp and torque. Of course the higher the octane you run, the more power you can get. The higher octane tunes also improved mpg, so it balanced out for the higher price of the gas. You can even get all your tunes set at 87 octane, the choice is yours. Doug is also very helpful and will giuld you through what you may need or what with your tunes.
