which turbo.....

i have 250,000kms on my 04 6.0L super duty. now, before ppl get all uppitty about how much boost these things make, my truck has always made 35psi at the turbo (fitting mounted in CAC tube 4'' from turbo...)

back in feb i had headgasket issues, so i got a aftermarket shop to instal ARP's, different set of non crackd heads, EGR delete, and SCT w custom tunes from innovative diesel.

the problem now is that 1 -2-3 gears i can only get 28-30psi. i can hold 34psi in final before the converter locks up. in 3rd gear if i let out of the throttle after passing someone, it will spike to 35psi....

is VGT solinoid weak? wear spot in turbo? local ford dealerships dont stock a VGT solinoid. i know ford wants 1500$ for stock turbo, aftermarket shop told me 2200 for next step up turbo thats still VGT. anyone have ideas wats goin on here? or wat turbo thats VGT to go with??

Sorry, but I don't think you have a turbo problem at all. Have you tried something simple like reloading your tune, and if that doesn't help then cleaning the turbo? Not to mention the fact that over 32 on a stock turbo and it starts to choke anyway. I think it's just fine.

with the EGR delete and custom tunes the boost sounds correct. What is the problem? Down on power or any running problems?

only you know how your trucks acting and us on the internet can only "imagine" using the details and info you give us. but i agree with what the guys say above about things sounding fine.
also on a side note if your looking for a turbo you can buy a turbo like i have for about the same price as a stock turbo...

mine has more of a growl than my stock one did but less whistle at idle...but my truck seems to have lost its muffler so its pretty loud especially with the 5" i have... I love this turbo i have less lag then i did plus my egts dropped

maybe you should accidentally lose your muffler...i have gone by the dot boys and nothing was said not even a turn of their head

EGT's climb pretty fast when its only around the 30psi mark once boost gets over 30psi the EGT's hold or drop slightly.... last winter i was havin issues when the temp hit -30*celcius. after 10miles of highway drivin my boost would drop off. i could punch it, as if to pass someone, count to 5 before i get any boost, but then it would over boost (40lb id back off throttle)..... leave it high idle on the side of the road for 5-10mins, and you could hear the turbo spool up again.

i dropped it off at ford, but of course it was never this cold when i had a chance to get it to them....so if the problem comes back this winter and the turbo is to blame im wonderin what other ppl are runnin for aftermarket turbos (still VGT). i dont want nuthin to big, im not into dealin w bigger injectors, fuel pumps.....

im runnin the xtreme street tune?? from innovative. the 120hp tune i think. it pulls good, but feels like its lackin a little pull on top.... fuel filters are new last oil change (5,000) kms ago. airfilter is stock and the minder hasnt moved. ( bought new minder, no difference)

soooo, in short, whos runnin a aftermarket VGT turbo WITH stock injectors. just so i have suggestions when i go to my parts man.

thanks

I had the same problem with my truck lacking at the top end then i got a fuel psi gauge and saw my psi going down to 15 or 20 psi.
Now I have a RR kit and the Airdog II pump and it runs GREAT and a constant 60 psi.
