My fuel filter light is flickering at low rpm's. I searched the forums and everyone has problems with high rpms or going up hills. I just changed the fuel filter the light went out for almost two days. Yesterday i was driving and when coming to a stop or idle the light would come on and flicker off and on. Once I pulled out and was driving or on the freeway the light was fine and didnt come on at all. Any suggestions or just put some black tape over it lol
Maybe the sensor is going bad?? It's nothing more than a vacuum gage. It completes the circuit to ground under high vacuum (restriction). The wire may be shorting to ground.
If you are religious about changing the filter you could unplug it and not worry. It's the (Black) top sensor in the picture.
I guess I need to ask the obvious question; Is the sensor wire properly connected to the sensor? If the connection is loose? It may be bouncing around, causing the light to flicker on and off.
I just checked the connection and took it off and plugged it back in. should I take the sensor off and try to clean it out and put it back in or replace it?
I'm not sure about ALL sensors in general, but most have a protective coating on the "tip" of the sensor that doesn't respond well to cleaning. If you think a sensor needs to be cleaned, it's generally a better idea to replace it.
The connector will not be your problem. It completes the circuit to ground. If the wire is bare and touching somewhere it will turn on the light. The problem is in the sensor IMO.
