I noticed today when driving after a few minutes the "Charge" idiot light flickers on and off randomly. Truck ran fine and starts fine. The light stops flickering when I put the head lights on. Am I correct in assuming there is an alternator issue maybe a voltage regulator and when I turn on the lights it draws enough power to keep the charge light from coming on?
It sounds like something is wrong. I would start by putting a volt meter on the battery (first with engine off) and seeing what the charge rate is a 1000 rpm with headlights off and on.
