Ok, here,s my dilemma, i need tire,s bad. i,m going with the LT 285-75-r16s D. I want a tire i can get alot of miles out of. I,m also trying to stay within budget. Most of my miles are on the road, 99% of the time but i,m thinking of going with a AGRESSIVE A/T tire. These tires can be studded, so i know they are a winter tire. They are a cooper tire discover S/T tire, or discover S/T-C. These tires come with 20-32nds of tread depth.Thats alot. Another option is the 265-75 r16 general grabber thats also in my budget but running stock. I loved my BS revos but to much money now. So, does anybody run the cooper S/T or S/T-C or general grabber on thier trucks and is satisfied or disatisfied with them? Thanks for the help.
I had a set of General grabber at/s on my bronco when i bought it , i liked them they were proly 50% when i got them an i think i put like 28,000 on them before i changed them. My uncle has a set on his 1 ton farm truck, and he loves them ...One of the guys i hunt w/ had a set of Coopers last 65,000 on a 97 psd and he was horrible about rotating them.. Just my 2 cents
I just put new grabbers on the wifes expy and she likes them, they hum alittle but it doesn't bother her. Only on 3 weeks, she likes them. Thanks for the input.
my next door neighbor runs the Cooper S/T tires on his 96 Powerstroke. He loves them, on his 3rd set I think? And he's a contractor that hauls heavy loads occasionally with a gooseneck trailer, and also a hunter.....so the tires see some offroad time also. I have rarely heard anybody say anything bad about Coopers......I almost got the STT's, but decided on the new BFG KM2's instead. I say go for the Coopers if they are in your budget!
I gotta give kudos to the general grabber. My 00 had 34000 on it when I bought it. Its my offroad tool wagon, so I put bias rubber back on it and put the generals on a 96 crewcab. These were a 235/85 configuration...tall and skinny. Put another 20k on the them and just sold the truck last week at 7/32 tread. No hum, no repairs, and saw a few hellacious loads in the last few years. 50k plus lbs gcvw. They made an excellent on road tire, not very efficient in the mud, but what road tire is!?!
my favorite a/t is dick cepek fc-II's they last forever and have great manners on and off road. i wish i could have them now but i got my nitto's for a steal
I'm gonna be needing new tires for my truck and have been looking into the Pro Comp xtreme at's and the BFG at's. After reading this thread it reminded me about the cooper's. A buddy of mine has had three sets on his toyota and he likes them. He is probably about even between time spent on and off road. I think I'm gonna check into the coopers myself now. One thing I can say is stay away from the Nitto Terra Grapplers. I've got about 21k on them and they are wore out! Thought I was getting a good deal on them, Man was I wrong!!
Thanks for all the info, i would of liked to go to a 305 but with these fuel prices, man, what else can i say. I had coopers in the past with my lincoln town car and they were great. Ran into a guy and he said he would hook me up with a good deal with the coopers. So should i go with the at with 17/32th tread or go with the more agressive one more step up with 20/32th? Can you discuss price on here?
Has anybody had this happen to them, i run into a guy who owns a tire shop. He,s said he will hook me up for a good price on tires, i said ok. I call the tire shop and tell the guy i talked to his boss and said to call you(his salesman). The guy gives me a qoute on these 2 type of tires, i said ok. I go up to the place just to see what the tires look like, and get an idea on how they will look on my truck. The guy gives me a total different price that he quoted me on the phone? I tell him this and he said he was confused on what type of tire i was talking about. I wrote the price down on the brochure that the owner gave me underneath each tire. I said you got to be kidding me, 20.00 more for each tire. I said GOODBYE.
Thats cool, i was looking at the next tire down ST. Don't do to much off road mainly highway but don't mind a little hum.. Well, looks like i'll be looking again, maybe tirerack.
I would go back to the tire shop and talk to the guy you ran into. Tell them the guy was wanting to charge ya 20 bucks extra a tire. Might just be misscommunication on their part.

What i will do is when i run into the owner i'll tell him i got two quotes. I just got bad vibes with this outfit, i told him what i wanted on the phone and the price changed twice. I'll check out this other place tomorrow and see what they say. Their motto is "get prices then come see us".
