Best Winter Tires
I have BF Goodrich A/T m+s 285/75/r16 tires on my 02 f250 crewcab diesel. I live in Alaska and am wondering if I need different tires for the winter. I'm considering Cooper discover m+s tires. Should I run a smaller non studded tire for year round use, like the Coopers, or just stick with what I have. Would the coopers be more grippy in the snow than the BF's? I'm more interested in gas mileage and not having two sets of tires that I have to deal with every six months. Thanks

I just did some research on tires for my truck in 285's. I have had BFG in the past and they did ok. I currently run Nitto Terra Grapplers and well, glad they are worn out. Several guys are running Cooper St-Maxx they come recommended to use on a plow truck so I just ordered them. Compare the St-Maxx and the Stt (which is what your looking at i believe) on there web site and you will see the ST/ Maxx is a better tire period.
So to answer one of your questions - yes the Cooper ST/Maxx & STT will be better in winter. The best thing you could do is get 265's, but I like the look of the 285's.

I run the S/T Maxx on my winter set, and they are great. Hardly ever need 4x4 in snow. Do great in mud, sand, wet/dry pavement...all while showing hardly any wear (and all wearing equally) with 10k miles. Really like the tire, but im going to the STT on my 17s because they dont make the S/T maxx in 35s
