e40d tranny quick question

e40d tranny quick question

the tranny went out in my 97 psd 4x4 auto. i need something to used to get me going again that will hold up until i can get BTS tranny which im looking forward to. theres alot of local used ones around for 1000 to 500. im not looking for much i just need my truck. what can a get a e40d tranny out of that will fit in my truck?

Only a 7.3 DI or IDI.

really the gasser ones are different? didn't know that

If i remember correctly the pre power stroke and the early power stroke had the same E4OD as the gas engines. And the only difference in ours is the shifting solneiods and the t/c. But i could be wrong. So if i am right then even an E4OD from a gasser would work, it just wouldnt work as good as the one that came out of the truck.

Stick to an e4od that came out of a 97 or as close to a 97 as possible, its got the most updates and is the strongest tranny from a weak tranny in the beggining

IIRC the bell housing bolt pattern for a gasser is different from our diesels.

You still have to deal with 2W and 4W drive.
Other option is to convert a 4X4 4R100.

I would just buy a kit for the 97.
