CRANK STORAGE

I just got my new 347 crank and was wondering how i should store it. Right now i have it coated with grease in a plastic bag and it is held up by two pieces of styrofoam at the ends. Is this ok and will the grease prevent it from rusting?? Ihope its ok cuz it wasnt very cheap. Well if anything is wrong wit this setup please tell me any better ways of doing it.

CRANK STORAGE

Your crank should be stored standing on end (with support from falling over) so it wont warp under its own weight. Sounds silly until you consider the tight tolerences used in crankshafts.

CRANK STORAGE

wouldn't it make more sense to support it the way it would be in the motor?.........like at the main journals???? since standing on end with all that weight on the last main journal could cause more damage than leaving it sit on the floor on the without any support....besides it probably wasn't shipped standing up and the manufacturer wouldn't ship it in any way that would damage it...so leave it laying flat and put some support under the main journals........

The reason it works standing up is that all of the weight is evenly distributed on the centerline so it doesn't end up putting and excess weight on any single portion of the crank. I would think a properly supported crank could be safely stored horizontally. I personally prefer the vertical method.
