Need some input (post body shop)

Long story short, I rear ended a toyota at about 10 mph. Minimal damge to my truck. Took it to a reputable body shop here in Southern California, which happened to be a Ford dealer as well. When I went to pick up the truck, the first thing I noticed besides the horribly crooked oval on the grill, was the piece behind the grill that holds the lights and the grill onto the front of the truck. They painted it white. (my truck is white) I am almost certain that this piece is not supposed to be painted. Shouldn't it be black? (pics below) I talked to the manager, and he scratched his head, and said that the piece came grey and it had to be painted. I told him that it is not supposed to be painted, and he changes his story and says he will have to look into it.

So here is where I need the input:
-Can ya'll verify that this piece is not supposed to be white.
-Can I get a parts guy to show me where I can buy this piece so I can prove to this guy that I am right. He wants to repaint it black , and I told him that I wanted a new piece.
-Also, I am kicking myself now for not taking before pics of the front end and under the hood, but does anyone have some pics that I could use for reference. (2003 F250 5.4L)

Sorry about the long read, and Thanks for your help.

I'm not feeling the white at all. Make sure the replace it, I would hate to see white show up as it cracks from the bugs hitting it.

Here is mine on a 2006. The piece is plastic and should not be painted IMO.

We had a white F350 in last week and we had to replace that same panel. The OEM ford was painted white and "splashed" with black undercoating. I had my paint department paint it white and then use undercoating like ford did, but with tape lines and complete coverage. In my opinion, I was disaponted with Ford on how bad they undercoated AND painted the panel. Very sloppy.

My guess is that the body shop techs didn't get time on the WO to "two tone" or "undercoat" so they just painted it white and put it on. It is easy to overlook.

It is an easy fix, remove the grill and mask the areas that your want to stay white and then undercoat the rest. Or you could take it back to the shop and point it out to them. But in my opinion, it would be quicker to do it yourself.

Should not be painted. At the factory this header panel goes on after painting.

Sounds like most of you agree: Whether the piece comes black or grey, it is plastic and should not be painted.

It looks like it is three different pieces that were painted white on my truck though. Someone correct me if I am wrong, but it looks like their are seperate pieces behind each light and a third piece behind the grill, or is it all one piece??

The white just looks horrible on it, and I cant even look at the front of my truck w/o shaking my head.

Thanks

It is all one piece, one of the many front end panels I replaced during my rebuild.

Be that as it may, if it was me, I would pull the grill, mask off all but what shows through the grill, and paint it black. I don't like the look of the white showing through the grill, but the rest would not bother me at all. There is only a little bit of it that actually shows through the grill.

Yeah, I could just fix the piece myself, but I am going to have the body shop fix thier mistake, and replace the piece. Thanks for the help and pics!

Never realized how big the condenser was on these trucks. You would think the A/C would work better than it does.
