Eh, my definition of a/c working better is fairly ****. Really cold, now. If it's not 38 degrees out the vent 1 minute after startup with 95 degree ambient and 90% humidity, there is room for improvement!

Mine personally works on par with other superduties. My old 97 PSD was insanely good working. Very cold, and vent temp got down immediately and stayed there! I don't know of another way to describe it. If I turned the **** to A/C and then cranked the fan on a hot day it was already blowing cool air and it quickly became COLD air. One of the few I found myself turning down in the summer.

A/C systems have always baffled me. Some cars with big components, condenser, evaporator, compressor whatever, don't work that great. Then others, with tiny condensors and fans will freeze out fast on the hottest humidest days!

Its all about how much the pressure drops through the expansion valve (or whatever its called).

Here is the pannel that we removed from the truck. This is the ORIGINAL FACTORY INSTALLED pannel. It IS painted white and splashed with undercoating.

Well, thats just overspray from painting body panels, I guess I was wrong about it going on after painting. Still, overspray is different from solid coats of white. Mine had a lot less overspray on it, which is why I thought it went on after painting.

It is definately not a paint quality that matches the rest of the truck. It looks like a single stage. But when a body shop replaces that part, it is easiest to use the same paint as the rest of the truck and quicker. We spray water base paint so we MUST clear coat. I guess a shop that uses solvent could just leave it in base. I still think it is crapy how Ford just sprays some undercoating for the black.

Mine didn't have undercoating on it, just a little white overspray, same as the inner fender components. And just overspray, nothing direct.

I work in a bodyshop and we usually paint them to do a nicer looking repair job, there suppose to be painted just like the pic GrizRC posted. half black, half painted, pretty nasty looking really. If we didnt paint them people would complain that there not painted. Then someone is gonna complain that theres got painted..... wow.

Well I wasn't looking for a nicer looking repair job. I want my truck to look original, and originally the piece was not white. The general consensus agrees that the white should not be visible throught the grill, as it is right now. Needless to say, the manager oredered a new part, and it will be in next week.

People may complain, but there arguement is not valid if you guys fix there vehicle back to original condition.

New part? Why? All they have to do is put undercoat on the area's that need to be blacked out. Did you not see my pics? It does get painted white and then undercoat in some areas. Why would you make the get a new part? That is overkill and a waste. All they need to do is remove the grill, mask a couple of areas and spray undercoat, that is all Ford did.

Do you know for FACT that YOUR original part was not painted? Doubt it. I hope they put the new plastic grey part on on not paint it white (just splash thhe undercoat) and then put it on and see how it looks to you. IMO you got better than factory and all they need to do is the undercoat.

The top and sides are suppose to be white, I hope they do that for you so its back to original condition. They were just trying to do a good job on your truck and you come back crying about some petty crap. and then wanting a new part?? jease..... Get over yourself.

You continue to fail to see my reasoning. Take a look back at the first picture I posted. Now tell me, how many SD trucks do you see that have the paint like that behind the grill? Lets see some pics. really. In fact, lets see a picture of the grill on your truck.

My reasoning is that the white should not be visible behind the grill whether the piece is painted, oversprayed, undercoated, or whatever. The white is now visible behind the grill, and the body shop has agreed to further repair the truck to meet my satisfaction, and whether you think that is a waste or not, well, I could really care less.

They are not telling you not to get it fixed. They are just saying that asking for a whole new part is a waste. All the body shop needs to do is use the black undercoat to spray the areas that are visible through the grill. That is how it comes from the factory, and that is how your truck should be fixed.

Ok, talked to the manager today. He got the part in. He ordered a used one off of another white SD, and sent me some pics. The piece came black and has quite a bit of white overspray much like cartmanea described. The manager was confused about how the first piece came as well, and said that was why he had the entire piece painted white. So he offered to undercaot the piece that is on my truck now, or stick the new one on. Either way they both will look the same. No visible white through the grill. And the second piece will not be wasted. I had him order a different one because he could not tell me how the piece actually came into the shop. Both him and I just wanted to clear up the confusion and have my truck fixed right.
