I haven't had this problem yet. But has anyone ever changed the headlight(bulb) in the Super Duties. I've got 2004 F-350 6.0 with dual batteries. It looks like they were born in there. Thanks
I always carry a spare headlight set. This is because of a trip to Big Bend a long time ago. On the trip, an 18 wheeler passed me on a gravel road and the rocks he threw up took out both headlights on a Sunday afternoon. I didn't find this out until I was on a desolate stretch of road as night came on with NO open shops to be found anywhere until Monday morning.
That being said, I installed Sylvania Silverstar H13 ST's as a slight upgrade and I kept the OEM bulbs as spares.
I also changed out (yesterday) the fog lights and installed Sylvania SilverStar 9005ST's. These are a lot brighter (65W vs 40). I was going to install the 9005 Ultra's, even though they are also 65W, but they run hotter than the ST's. I was unsure if the lenses would withstand the temps.
The fog lights are easy, just read the manual. I took the front license plate holder off to give me a little more room for twisting the bulbs out and back in.
You should also read the manual for changing the headlights, but I do recall they are hard to get access to. I changed my headlights 1 1/2 years ago and got some help by searching this site - don't recall what it was, but there was a post that made it easier. You might try the same (search for headlights) while I try to find my "tips" for this - I did this mod before I kept track of "every tip in the book" in my spreadheets.
I think mine still come out from the back like the old bulbs? I looked in there on a whim and I still see something that looks like the screw out post from the old F Series, but I've never actually pulled it.
I have an 05 6.0 and there easy to get out... Just installed the running oard lights that blink from Recon...
- You just need to unscrew the 4 bolt screws on top of the grill.
- unscrew the 2 screws on top of head light and 2 on bottom (between headlight and bumper)...
- Pull head light out of "socket" and twist the back of the bulbs and pull them out... then remove em' from power outlet (thing that connects them) and replace with new bulbs (plug em' in)..
Then reverse the process to get them back in the sockets...
