I have an 08 5.4 L Harley Davidson. It has an edge evolution tuner and I wondering what the best level to run it in is? Also, How many km's per tank is everyone getting?
I think you can find most of those answers by doing a search on this forum.
I didn't see an MPG uptick in Level Two until I adjusted the shift points lower and bumped the timing ahead. In Level Zero, in the cool spring weather, about 500 feet above sea level, using Shell (a Top Tier gas, if that makes any difference), I can bump it three degrees and no ping. At four degrees I get a very light ping under load (these modular engine have an odd ping, too, don't they?). In level two I can run two advanced (same shift points). My truck has 4.10 gears, so it may be able to tolerate more advance and lower shift point that those of you with taller gears. I'm still testing, but it looks like my changes give me about 0.5 mpg over the standard settings, as measured by the Edge on the specific section of road I'm using for comparison.
I also run my edge on level 2. With my Volant I'm maybe getting +1 mpg over stock. If you search the forum you'll find seveal threads about edge and what users are running for cals.
Thanks for your input. My truck also feels and sounds like it is miss firing between 30-50 mph. so i'm not to sure if i have the timing set right. When I first put the edge tuner in I ran 91 octane and it seemed to run fine. So this tank I tried 87 octane in the same level (2) and it don't seem to run as well and also drinks more fuel from what I can see. Anyone run across this problem?
Not me. I run 87 octane Shell regular on both the settings I mentioned above. If you have a missfire, that's a separate issue from pinging. A missfire should throw an EFI code sooner or later.
If it's pinging only on straight level 2 with no custom program (e.g. a timing bump), I don't know what to tell you. You might try a different brand of 87 octane fuel, perhaps a Top Tier rated fuel. Google Top Tier if you don't know about it and you will find a list of gas that meets those performance standards. The bargain basement "no-name" fuels are often of inconsistent quality. It may be that you truck will not run 87 octane on level two. The Edge rep I talked to said that was a strong possibility but not an absolute.
