Hello, I have an 2005 F150 Screw Cab. And when I am going down the interstate on a windy day at 75 mph My hood really seems to be shaking. Is this normal? I have never seen a stock hood move this much.
Mine does the same thing on windy days and at high speeds. The back of the hood vibrates so much I swear it's going to get ripped off. Do you have a bug shield on your truck?, I noticed that after I put the bug shield on the vibrations got worse on windy days.
I also noticed this on mine a couple weeks ago. I popped the hood and everything seemed fine. There was some flex where the hinge and hood meet, but everything was tight.
ERIC
It's windy as anything here today, and mine doesn't move at all, even on the interstate, heading into the wind. Maybe they fixed that bug between 05 and 08?
My 05 FX4 SCrew does the same thing. I remember a little while back there was a thread on this and a fix for it. I searched old threads and this is what I found....Hope it helps.
TSB 04-18-8 HOOD FLUTTER AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS
ISSUE:
Some 2004 F-150 may exibit hood movement at the back of the hood due to high air turbulence, while driving at highway speeds. This condition may be amplified by the installation of an accessory bugshield and may be more pronounced when passing an on-coming vehicle on a two lane road.
ACTION:
Refer to the following Service Procedure.
SERVICE PROCEDURE:
Confirm that the hood is flush with the front fenders at each front corner. If the hood is under-flush, adjust the hood stops to raise the hood flush with the tops of the front fenders. Check the amount of drag at the rear hood to cowl seal with a piece of paper. Place a piece of paper between the seal and hood, close the hood and then slowly pull the paper out. It there is sufficient drag, indicating good seal to hood contact, return the vehicle to the customer.
If there is little to no drag, obtain locally a piece of fuel hose 147cm long & 11mm diameter (58" long & 3/16" diameter). Lube the hose with a soap-based solution and install the hose inside the hood seal bulb.
I've been too lazy to do this yet, but I will try it shortly.. Hope this helps.
