y dont you get a programmer set up for your truck in particular with custom tunes? Bc a edge is canned tunes that aren't set up for your style or wants
I saw some dp tuners and stuff like that but those guys at the 7.3 forum will help you immensely on choosing the rt tuner for you...remember this site has lots of sponsors who will help you with info and give you a better deal than if you go buy something other company's
I am not sure I am looking for custom tuning to that degree, in fact I am not sure what it is I want to do yet I was just going to get one like an edge or super chips to start with and go from there.

I bought the Edge Evolution II last summer immediately after purchasing my 03 7.3L. I understood the "tunes" would be more generic than custom (although all the parameters can be changed individually if you know what you are doing, yielding a "custom tune" authored by YOU). I mostly needed gauges and the Evo allows you to choose up to 4 at a time (I use volts, tranny temp, boost and EGT). I knew my truck wasn't ready for a custom tune yet since I still had the stock exhaust and intake. I planned on buying a DP tuner down the road when all the other mods were done and using the gauge function of the Evo, also able to read and clear codes with it.
The Evo works as I expected. I've used the 'tow' and 'race' settings for towing my 10K# fifthwheel and both are a GREAT improvement. Even got better mileage using 'tow' than stock. Got a LOT more power and smoke using 'race' but worse fuel mileage, as I'd expect.
My only disappointment is the 90ma power draw to the Evo when the truck is off. It's often weeks between times I use this truck and, combined with the normal phantom load draws of these trucks, after two weeks my (new) batteries won't have enough juice left to start the engine. I'm now leaving the Evo disconnected from the OBDII connector unless I'm gonna be towing... it's no big deal: plug the Evo back in, turn on the key (but don't start) and the Evo checks to make sure it's in the same truck, then you push 'enter' and all is back to normal.
At this point I wish I'd gotten pillar gauges and waited to get a DP until after the other mods were done. But anyone driving their truck at least a couple of times per week won't notice the power draw problem. I like the Evo and other than that have no complaints.
you refered to DP in your last paragraph what does DP that stand for?
That is the 'tuner of choice' for most of the members here. You have an extended discussion with Jody about your truck and usage, then he makes a tuner designed for you and YOUR truck. DP is an easy sponsor to find so I won't dig up the link.
I should add, mravetto, something else you may or may not already know: the Evo "reprograms" your computer and it takes about 6 minutes each time you change programs. Some have problem with this and prefer a tuner that they can switch "on the fly". However by reprogramming the PCM more parameters are modified including the transmission. Tuners (like the Edge Attitude w/Juice) will only be modifying fuel delivery and timing specs without doing any actual "reprogramming" of the PCM.
I prefer changing the transmission settings along with timing/fuel settings. Others would have a different opinion.
