I am looking to purchase a chip or tuner for my F350 drw, anyone using the edge evolution or the edge with attitude? Just trying to get some feedback on what you like or dislike about the unit
I wouldn't use an Edge device on my truck. With a 7.3 you have a little more give and take with tuners/modules, but I would still use something with custom tunes as that adds to expandibility later on.
Agreed. Stay away from the Edge. My wife's truck had that when we bought it. We pulled that out right away and got a chip from Total Diesel Performance. It runs circles around the Edge and you can change the tunes while driving. No need to pull over and download the whole program. Cruise around in the daily driver or economy tune, rotate the **** and punch it if you need to pass someone, then back to economy. DP-Tuner is another favorite here that has the same type options and benefits. Both are worlds better than the Edge. DP is even a sponsor here.
Of course when adding power to the truck, there are other things you should do. Upgrade intake and install a set of gauges would be a good first step. Then we can move on to a shift kit, installing an additional tranny cooler, or changing the compressor wheel, etc. etc. to keep the extra power from shortening the life of the other components.
Scroll a little further down the main forum listing and you'll find a 99 - 03 7.3 diesel section. There's more info than you ever dreamed about down there, and we can walk you through all the stuff so you can do it yourself. No need to pay someone to do this stuff for you.
thank you i am looking to purchase the intake and chip/tuner at the same time, and i think that's as far as i am gonna go as far as engine upgrades for a while

I forgot to mention we're also the type that pinches pennies when we can. Many of us just run a DIY cold air intake. It consists of a scrap piece of 4" exhaust pipe and a $30 air filter (Wix part # 546637 or 6637 for short) and a pre-filter from Pete.
i currently have a DIY intake system on my 90 lx mustang, so i might just do something similar to that, seeing how all the 7.3 keep that battery box. What does the compressor wheel do if you dont mind me asking?
It changes the airflow curve so you don't get turbo stall. When you put a good chip on the 7.3, you'll get turbo flutter at the top end, which is hard on the turbo. By changing to a different wheel inside the turbo, you change the curve and most can eliminate the problem.
It might sound complicated, but much like the shift kit. After you do it, you'll think, "I thought this would be a lot harder" We've got links, photos, and plenty of advice about all this in the 7.3 section. Don't worry. You're in good hands. The real benefit is, we can tell you what we've wasted money on that does not work. That way you don't have to experiment.
i have noticed that flutter you speak of in my friends excursion. Thank you very much for all the help full info, i guess my next thing to do is a big search through out the site
Spend a little time reading here and your friend will soon be asking you for advice.
If he's a true friend, go ahead and tell him about the great site you found. Then you can help him work on his, and he can help you work on yours. But feel free to wait and order yourself a real chip first so he can see the difference in what you've found.
when he purchased the ex it came with a chip exhaust and gauges. He doesnt know what type of chip i believe the its double stacked, all i know is its the only 7.3 that i have driven to keep up with 6.0.
Double stack technology is so old it's worthless. Well maybe not worthless, but the technology has come far enough that you don't need to do that anymore. If he doesn't know much about the truck get him on here quick so we can teach him what to watch for on those gauges. Nothing will ruin your day like a hole in a piston.
