What's the difference between the D9 and E4 bellhousings? I'm needing one for an '86 which had the aluminum E4, but I would prefer to have the D9 if it will work...Anybody?
I'm having one hell of a time deciphering stuff...
I've got access to an E4TA-7505 and a D9TA-7505. Supposedly both big block bells. I called my Ford parts guy and he said the E4TA-7505 is for a small block...
The 7505 must specify which engine, but I'm not sure.
Ford: The group number shown in parts catalog illustrations is also the basic part number.
7505 is the basic Ford part number for a bellhousing = all Ford bells from 1.3L's thru 534's.
Add the prefix & suffix for a complete casting / engineering / part number.
The engineering numbers posted for the D9 & E4 bells are not complete, making extra work for this long suffering FTE member, who researches & types this *&(^%^ for free.
D9TA-7505-CB = 351M/400 (1980/82) 1977/79 was D7TA-AD
E4TA-7505-DA **or** E4TA-7500-EA = 300 / 302 / 351W (1984/ ) 7500: 7505 is not the only engineering number used for bells.
There are OTHER E4TA marked bells for 460's / 6.9 diesels / 2.8 V6's.
And...Not ALL the engineering numbers are shown in parts catalogs.
LOOK CLOSE = BE CAREFUL = there's also E47A markings. The 7 could mean a Aerostar/Ranger/Bronco II/F100/350/Econoline/passenger car.
Deciphering engineering numbers is a PITA. Thankfully, casting numbers cannot be cross referenced to part numbers!
As that bell housing fits the 351M/400, then it fits the T-18/NP-435 truck 4 speeds, as the 351M was only used in trucks. Compare the T&C toploader 4 speed with the T-18 pattern to see if it will work.
