Buy 19,000,000,000 overpriced trucks off of eBay or 60,000,000 from a Barrett Jackson auction!

our gas and get away with it. They are setting
the prices and all others follow

ah, but is that profits, or total taken in before paying for the barrels of oil? If that's profits, that's enough to give every person (U.S. Census 2007) $1,827.00

I spend $75.00 every week. That's $3900 every year. If I received $1827 at the end of the year, that would pay me back 24 weeks of free gas. Averaged over the course of the year, they could lower the gas prices considerably, before we break even.

They will pay their shareholders, if that is their profit (which I doubt).

If that is their "income", then they'll have to pay expenses before they look at what goes to shareholders.

BTW, isn't Exxon the biggest corporation in the world? They are certainly in the top 10 largest. I would expect big numbers. But I saw recently some stats on profit percentage that showed they only average about 9% profit, while other well-known large corps were in the 12-15% range, so I think they have plenty of room to milk us if they want before the next congressional investigation proves (again) they are pricing their product fairly.

Besides, the actual cost of purchasing crude, refining fuel and distribution is less than 50% of the price we pay. Just pray our legislators don't get as tax happy as the europeans, or we'll be paying the same rates for our gas.

I hear alot of people bustin the oil companies, but 9-10% profit sounds reasonable to me. I think the bigger crooks are the politicians. Gas Co makes 35 cents on a gallon, and the taxes are how much on each gallon?????

And the government doesn't lift a finger or invest a dime to get their money.

I was listening to National Public Radio tonight, I do it just to get my blood pressure up, anyways, the guest was saying the government should raise gas taxes to curtail our use of energy. Now, I've never taken an economics class but even with my little knowledge I know raising the cost of fuel, either through the market place or taxes does nothing but hurt the economy. Even if you're tree hugging lefty you have to realize that if the price goes up people will have to cut back to help pay for the fuel for our vehicles. Sure we can cut back but we still have to go places so our basic fuel needs need to be met. First we'll stop going to restaurants, which will have to lay off workers because less people are coming in, there are a lot of people in the food service industry. The laid off workers will buy less and it will ripple through to other services. That's one effect and be translated to other industries. Second, fuel drives this country, even if you want us to use an alternative source of energy it isn't going to happen in a year or even a decade so we need petroleum. As the price of fuel goes up truckers have to pass the cost to the places they deliver to, the places they deliver to raise their prices to cover the added costs, their customers raise their costs and so on. I wish the goofs who want to raise our taxes all of the time would take a simple economics course and understand what they are doing.

I wonder how long this thread will go on, the last two went pretty long so I would guess what needs to be said has already been said.

Recession is a nasty word and as mention by Bob, your Mr Bush really doesn't care anymore. He will be out of the top job in short while. He will get his new home, driver, good retirement benifet, a few secret service men to guard him. Why would he care what happens to the American Economy now. He'll let the next person who takes office worry about the situation of a ailing economy. As long as the US dollar stays as it is just for a few more months I'll be happy. That way I will get good value for my Aussie dollar when I come over and visit for the Western Nationals in June.

It wont matter who wins this election, ALL are CROOKS!! Anyone who spends millions to get a job that pays $250,000 a year is going to get it back somewhere?

On a side note for the price of gas AGAIN! If you do just a little simple math, you can soon find out that the price of gas really hasnt gone up as much as you think. Years ago when gas was .25 cents a gallon, the average worker made $1.00 an hour. That means you worked about 15 minutes for a gallon of gas. Today if you made $12.00 an hour, and gas is between $ 3 and $4 a gallon, its about the same. And dont get me started again on that IDIOT al gore!! He won a prize for a his IDIOT idea of this global whatever he calls it this week, and its FICTION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Terry, you know I respect you, but that is your opinion, not necessarily shared by everyone. Some feel that we have made serious impacts on the global weather/environment, and some don't. But, that doesn't make ANYone an idiot. And your wording would make anyone that agrees with him, an idiot by association. Not sure if that's really what you want to say...

It's a sad decline that we are looking at, regardless of the reasons. I would NOT want to be my children, or grandchildren, at this time!!

I wish I had the power you guys think Bush has, I'd find a cure for cancer and end world hunger. You're forgetting about the Democratic run congress. I admit Bush isn't perfect, he has done a lot I don't like but congress has equal power. The economy didn't take a dive until the Democrats came into power. Listen to Clinton and Obama, I mean really listen to what they are saying. They're going to take money from one portion of society and give it to another. Sure, it sounds like Robin Hood taking from the rich and giving to the poor but it's worse than that. Their idea of rich is a person who makes $100K. $100K isn't really all that much any more, I don't make that much but someday I hope to and when I get there I don't want some goof in Washington to take it away from me.

If Gore would have gotten elected, which he didn't, you can only recount hanging chads so many times, I could only imagine what that tree hugging hypocrite would have done to our economy. He's in favor of every international treaty and environmental nut case plan that would have strangled our economy. He's like the rest of the liberal establishment who believe everyone's rights should be restricted except theirs. Example, his home energy usage is 20 times the national average, that's OK because he's important and needs it. He wants to restrict our travel while he jets all over the country in private jets, but that's OK because he's spreading an important message, no matter how flawed his message is. Rosy O'Donnell is an adamant anti gun person but her body guards have guns but that's OK because she needs protection. My favorite, Obama wants' to investigate CEO's exorbitant salaries because they are disproportionally higher than the people who work for them. Oprah is one of the richest COEs in the country but is a major supporter of Obama's so nothing is said about her. I'll bet not one person on her staff makes 50% of her salary.

The price of oil is set by the buyers, not the companies, and not Bush. Don't get me wrong, I'm not a lover of big oil, I would love to be in a business where someone else would set my price and all I had to do was sit back and say, "Hey I can't do anything about it." I realize there are a lot of people making a lot of money but I don't think there's much we can do about except bend over and take it. As long as some one in China or India is willing to pay the price we're stuck.

I apologize for my polictical rant but I had to vent. This is a truck forum and lately there has been a lot of political stuff posted. I am sorry and will try to refrain from this subject in the future.
