So my Brigade is making our rotation to the National Training Center in Ft. Irwin California next month for 28 days. Any tips for storing my 2003 Supercrew 5.4L? It's a 4x2, I am not sure if I should drain anything or what? I will be at NTC from May 17 to June 15. Truck will not be being started and stored on a lot on Ft. Riley. Thanks for all the help.
For 28 days? Fill up the tank and let her sit. I've let mine sit for way longer then that.
Also stock up on some cans of chew and a couple cartons of cig's. I've sold them for as much as 12.00 a pack. You might not need them but you can make a killing on them about the third week your out their. Also, a good pair of googles, mp3 player with patchcord to hook into the com system, and some ramen noodles. Put paper in the end of the fifty, fire no blanks, keep your 16 in a plastic bag. GL out their, be safe and watch out for the waddies. If you see a black cloud comming bundle up as quick as you can. P.S. rattle snake makes a real good dinner compared to MRE's, try to runum over by the head. Leave no food out at night, the coyotes are mean out their. Almost as mean as those 10 lbs redwing blackbirds.
Might also try 1 of the solar cigarette lighter battery chargers. These are great for a trickle charge to maintain a full battery charge. Alarms, clocks, stereo memory all draw current-some disconnect the battery or add on/off switch. I also got a dinky solar ventilator that you run the window up on to hold on top edge of door glass. That tiny fan will circulate air & help lower temp inside when I park in the sun.

BEEN THERE, DONE THAT and GOT A TEE-SHIRT for my troubles....
all good ideas..... for being in Ft Irwin, that is.... not much to do for the truck. it will be fine to sit a month.
Thanks for all the help- this is my first truck and very nice, so I m overly concerned about it! The only other thing I am worried about is hail damage from the Kansas storm season. Anything you all recommend to put on the truck to protect against that? It will be outside in the deployment lot-uncovered.
Agree with the above, my Galaxie has sat for a lot longer with no problems. A month is nothing for a vehicle to sit. If it is going to be out in the sun maybe buy a windshield cover thing to keep the sun off the dash.
Thanks for serving - first of all. We appreciate everything you do.
I always put a moisture absorber in my boat over the winter - might not be a bad thing to add. It just sits in your cab and will soak up the extra humidity and such so it doesn't seem so stale after sitting there so long.
You probably need to decide whether to close all the vents or leave them open - again it will effect the humidity in the cab. Guess I could see both ways - open for air circulation, closed to reduce humidity.
Don't leave any crayons around - they flat out melt!
My Mustang sits from Halloween until end of April. I put a full tank of gas in it before I store it. When it's time to start it up, cranks about 2 times and comes to life. Fuel injection has helped remedy a lot of "storage" problems in newer vehicles. A month is nothing. I have stuff around here that sits longer than that with minimal gas in it.
If your worried about hail a cheap foam matress cover, one of those 2" thick ones under a car cover should work. I have one in the barn I use when we get hail storms.
