Well, i have been around here for awhile now, browsing and all that. I have a question regarding my 72 SWB. The truck has what I am pretty sure is a 400 in it, circa 1973-74ish, and right now the drivers side of the motor is chained down, as rigged by the previous owner. I won't evn go into the details of how they ran the chain, I just need to know what I need to tell the guys at my local Zone that I need. I have looked it up online and compared my mount to the pictures there, but can't find one that matches.
I appreciate any help you guys can give me, i figured I'd ask here first, that one of you has the same setup. I'm sure I'll have lots of other q's in the future, as I have only owned this truck for one week, and have just now begun to dig into it.
Welcome to the FTE forum! There are lots of knowledgeable people on here to help you when you need it!
Are you sure your pickup has a 400? count the number of valve cover bolts and let us know. Stock in that year would have been a 240/300 six cylinder, 302 V-8 or 360/390 from the "FE" engine family.
Yep, I've researched it thouroughly. It has eight VC bolts per side, the thermostat housing is vertical into the block, the timing cover is a flat plate, and the intake manifold casting number is from a 74 car 400. I've also looked at pictures through the 335 series forum to verify. I was told it was a 351, but the intake just looks like it is original to the motor, as they are both in the same general condition, half rust and half paint.
Use mounts and perches for a 77-79 truck with a 351m/400. Dimensionally, the frame was the same on those in that area, and they were available with those engines.
That's kinda what I was thinking, I just wanted to make sure before i tried the trial and error method. Gas is expensive now, ya know. Any body have an Edelbrock four barrel intake layin around for sale for the M series? I don't like the four barrel-to two barrel adapter setup that's on it. But, at least I don't have to buy an edelbrock carb, right?
I need some replacement sheetmetal (cab mounts, lower door skins, bed floor, inner fender RH, floor pans), what is everyone's favorite source for quality replacements? I looked at LMC truck, but I was curious as to what experiences people may have had with them, or any other vendors ( esp. site sponsors).
