will a bad starter throw a code
Hey,
My 04 6.0 (62,000 miles) left me stranded for the second time in two weeks. Grrr!
question: will a bad starter throw a code? Was trying to leave work two days ago and my truck wouldn't start. It would crank but wouldn't turn over. Also when it would crank, there was a banging noise that seemed to be in harmony with the starter harmonics. This noise started the day before when the engine was warm and didn't go away the next morning when it was cold. I started the engine a total of 5 times with the banging before it wouldn't start. Had it towed into the dealer. It started right up when the tech started to look it over this morning ... it had the bagging noise. Before the tech could figure out the problem .... the bang when away. It hasn't returned and the engine starts fine. It hasn't thrown a code and has stumped the tech. He will try again tomorrow. I've done a search for hard starting or not starting and got starter issues and fuel pressure issues and clogged fuel filters. I admit I haven't changed the fuel filter in at least 12000 miles but that wouldn't cause the banging noises. Does anyone have any ideas or helpful resolutions???
thanks!
Jason
