So how much better does it run? I used to solder and fix electronic stuff for a living for years. No doubt I could easily do that mod but is it really worth it?
Post some pics before you close it up if you can. And congrats for doing it on your own TJ! Soldering is not easy to learn w/out causing some damage once in a while.
Okay TJ, you have inspired me. I have the cover off my old 100 IDM and have located the resister I need to remove. Did you use the break-it-half method to remove the old one? Did you shorten the new resister legs before you soldered it in? Any workd of wisdom before I take the plunge? Does it matter which way the new resister goes in(ie which way the strips go)? Aireeek

I used the tip of the soldering Iron to get the coating off around the resistor. Then melted the soldered joints while trying to pry. Finally was able to pry of the rectangular piece with a flat blade screw drive while keeping the solder melted. Pretty much I messed around with it until it came loose and broke into two pieces.
It doesn't matter which way the new resistor goes in and I left the leads long so it was easier to position and get soldered in.
