I know that this subject has probably been beaten to death but...I am getting ready to replace mine soon and I wanted your advice. I want to keep the original 18" wheels. I have 275/70/18's on it now. I would like to knwo what you all are dooing for tires. I like the Dueler A/T Revo but they dont offer it in load range E. I also like the Wrangler A/TS but I have read mixed reviews with those. Then there is always the BF Goodrich A/T's. I have a wholesale account through my buisness but I wanted to get your opinions. I would like to stay with the proper load range E. Are there anyother sizes I could go with without getting into too many issues with the speedo. I see the close ones are like 275-65-18's just a little wider.
I picked Toyo A/T opencountry 285/65 18's. 5000 miles and so far so good. They're quiet and smooth and there is has been no noticeable change in economy (they're about the same height as the conti's, just a bit wider).
I would have liked to go to 35's, but I work this truck long and hard so dirt traction, power and economy were my first priorities. A+ in all three categories.
There is a tiny bit of sidewall flex and I will report on wear after 15 or 20 thousand miles.
Yes - this issue gets beat to 'death', but since you asked:
I hope to replace my tires (275/75/18) with either Toyo Open Country 285/70/18's or Dick Cepek F/C II 305/70/18. Both are 35" tall and are a wee bit wider. I like the height, but don't want to much width as to keep the mud from flinging so much on the side of the truck...
pagnew: you had 75 ratio tires on there stock? (275/75/18) they should be 70 ratio...
Sarge261: you could try the E rated 285/65/18 BFG A/Ts. I really like the BFGs and have had them on several trucks. They are rated the same as your stockers (but w/ stronger sidewall) and should be close to your orig. tires height, maybe a tad shorter...
The 305s like I have suck some power and hit you in the MPG dept. But they look cool and don't need a lift to fit...

Yes Diesel-dan you are correct - a typo - my mistake 275/70/18's (I still have them). Don't hang me
Anyway the 305's will work well with the 4:30 gearing and 'luckily' mileage isn't a concern for me.
How do you guys feel about the Wrangler A/TS. I had them on my F-150 and they seemed ok. I am probably going to lean twords the BFG's as I did have them on my other 350 and liked them a lot. Is there a size between the 305's that I could go with or not. I want to keep it as fule effieceint a s possible I do drive it on long runs quite a few times per year.
New to the forum - But I found some Michelin's. LTX A/T 2 that a buddie recommended.
They are expected to be quiet on the road, yet have teeth at the sidewall edge to give some grip for the occasional off-road time. Supposed to have 60K plus wear out.
I'm not changing ratios - so LT275/70-18 will be used.

How Much Fule Mileage did you really loose Dan?
Thanks,
Sarge
I've had the AT/S on 3 trucks: the ones on the Expedition were the P rated tires, and I had LT rated 285s on a '91 F250 4x4 and a '99 F250 4x4. I like the wear mileage you get from the AT/S LTs (the P rated ones wear faster), but I think the BFGs are close. The AT/S in the LT version does sling more rocks (gravel size) than the BFGs - they get caught easier in those center grooves and come out at speed.
I lost about 2MPG highway, going to the 305s from the stock 275s. I'd consider the 285s if I was doing it again. The tread width on the BFGs looks wider than their conterparts (to me, haven't measured).
While I haven't tried them, folks seem to really like the Toyos too...
