Quick question for you experts, first of all I wasn't sure if this post should be here or in the Excursion section. Anyway, I have an 03 Diesel-Excursion and my 4wd will not engage. I then went to the lockouts and the one on the passenger side turns freely, but the driver's side locker will not turn. Could this possibly be the problem, maybe switch is in the middle? Or would the automatic still work?? Thanks any help would be appreciated...
if it wont engage with the switch... they are vacume controlled, check the pump on the pass. side fender under hood, look for a vacume leak... a dead giveaway is if you hear it start running and wont stop or runs for a long time (Buzz sound)
look under both fenders and find rubber tubing running to vac port, its usually clipped with brake line... they dry rot and split...
as far as the manual hub switch, they will freeze up if you dont work them every couple months...
if you jack that side up and remove the tire you will see 2 metal tabs sticking out, thats the locking ring, get some pliers, squeeze and remove the ring, the hub should slide right out.... try woking it by hand, you may have to grab a can of WD40 and hose it down...
