I was looking at installing my 6637 this weekend and ran into a few problems. I have an early 99 and have taken out the existing air filter canister, top and bottom. Where can I get a piece of 4" 45 degree pipe to make the existing connection to the intake tube? How have others done this on the early 99s? It would be nice to have a bracket made to lift the filter off the fender wall to get air flow under the filter. Anyone do this?
not sure how they do keep it up in the air more..i went strait to the AFE stage2....if you dont have an exhaust shop or a big truck shop close by to get a scrap piece of exhaust...you can use a 45* elbow for a 3" PVC septic pipe....just scuff up the ends so it wont pop off the filter or intake tube...
I bought my 45 piece at a big rig parts house in San Jose. You want to reverse the hose that attaches to the air filter, it makes it fit better. I'll eventually make some billet brackets that hold the filter just right, but for now I use and old shoe, yes and old shoe holds it up just fine so it clears the brake line and the IC tube. You don't want that rubber hose rubbing on either or those at all.
Here's a pic of my setup. It clears the IC tube and the brake line by about a quarter inch. Note the sweet lifting action of the old brown shoe under the filter. Oh, mustn't forget the smooth shock absorbing action of the empty ATF bottle stuffed into the fenderwell. Laugh all you want, they work well and don't fall out! Ok, I am laughing a bit just thinking about it...

Well, I'm aware of the old saying that "if the shoe fits, etc...", but when I saw your setup during our visit, I pointed out that your "shoe support bracket" wasn't allowing the lower portion of the 6637 suck any air, and that a proper bracket would correct this.
What bites is there is a mounting hole on the battery bracket for a brace, but not anything on the other side. Gonna work on a cantalevered setup, but until.. Got the other shoe?
I bought a piece of aluminized 4" o.d. 90* and a muffler bracket that holds the filter off the interior wheel well from Dynaflex Chrome Muffler Stacks | Chrome Stacks | Rubber Intake Elbows | Donaldson Mufflers in Clackamas, Oregon.....I will try to add pics to night....turned out real sweet...had same problems your encountering....used a piece from the 90 to make section for ccv mod about $40.00 total
your going to need a longer bolt to make the bracket work....they also have silicone boots for your IC set up, but I don't know if the inside is coated like a "mr.Bobs"
