Which vehicle? My 5.0L Mustang takes 5 quarts, my friend's GT takes 7 quarts with an aftermarket pan, and my g/f's dad's '87 F150 takes, I think, 6 quarts.
The 302 found in Broncos&pickups takes 5 quarts of oil if you don't change the oil filter. If you change the filter, too(which is always a wise idea...)then the refill capacity for the 302 is 6 quarts of oil.My Bronco has an aftermarket oilpan on it,so it takes 7 quarts with a filter change.I'd check to see if your friend's 302 has the stock pan on it,or an aftermarket one.
I was intending to ask this question too. I always thought it was 6 with the filter, but when I changed mine, I put 6 in with a filter and it showed one quart over (yes I did start it to fill the filter). Is my truck a 5 quart oddball? wrong dipstick?
My 94 302 owners manual states that the capacity is 5 qts. I have only changed once so far, oil and filter, and used the 5qt bottle of Mobil 1. Ran it for a few minutes and then let it set for a few. Exactly full. I don't think there is any way the filter is going to hold a quart by itself.
