Front Oil Seal 86 302

Anybody know an easy way to replace the front seal? Motor less than a year old and front seal is puking oil.

Front Oil Seal 86 302

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 18-May-02 AT 11:00 PM (EST)]Pilotrick,
I would assume, all new gaskets and seals were put on the newly rebuilt motor. If this is the case, and a new front seal was installed, the problem is not the seal, but a worn harmonic balancer.

You can buy a harmonic balancer repair sleave for probably less than 10 bucks.

The exact same thing happened to me. I rebuilt the 302 in my 83 bronco last fall, and everything ran great except I used a quart of oil every 500 miles. I found it to be coming around the front seal. An 18 year old kid at the parts store told me about the repair sleave. I wish I had known about this this trick before I assembled the engine. I can almost get to 3000 miles now before I am a quart low.

Well it was not the seal after all it was the oil pressure sending unit . It was puking out the end of the unit and dripping down the front cover making it look like the front seal. Speaking of the front seal I don't remember from when I rebuilt the motor, but can you replace it without removing the front cover :-X11 ? Chiltons says you can and Haynes says you can't which is right ? Thanks for your help
