I have a 85 F250, bought off my wifes granda. I think he bought it from an old guy that had it sitting for a while. Will start and run ok for a few minutes, then get really choppy and rough and will even die unless I feather the throttle, has some black/blue smoke out of exhaust. After runnung for about 15 to 20 minutes, it smoothes out a little, will stay running. Not getting very good gas milage, I know its a 460, but 4 miles to a gallon is a bit rediculous I think. Looked at the carb, has E5HE-9510-DA, list 50259. Cant find any info on it anyware, tried looking through this site and other, no luck. Can anyone help me figure this out? Thanks!
E5HE is an 85 Heavy duty series factory carb. Sometimes they are E5TE for 85 truck.
It is the OEM carb. Could be that the choke is too tight.
What is the temp where you are at? Carb icing can occur below 50 degrees and humid unless the factory hot air supply on the air cleaner is working properly.
