lxman, i tried what you said and took the carb off, took it apart, and cleaned it. i didn't find any debris down inside anywhere. i took apart the fuel bowl and the accelerator pump and couldn't find anything. i shot out all the jets and passages with carb cleaner anyway. i put it all back together and started it up and it definitely seems to run smoother, but i still have no off-idle throttle response. it's still doing the same thing. i've found that if i hit the throttle hard from idle, it makes a sucking sound and just bogs, and if i hold it down after hitting it hard like that, it will actually cut off. if i ease into the throttle it's fine. the accelerator pump seems to be functioning properly, but i don't really know what it looked like before. i took it apart and the diaphram is intact and everything looks fine. what else could this be?!

 

Are you talking any opening of the throttle or alot of throttle?
Where is the timing set? is the advance working?
