Good carb for 85 300 w/duraspark??
Hi guys, I am putting a 1985 300 6 in a 56 F100. I found a very nice running 1985 F150 and bought it for the engine thinking I was all set. Then I found out about the feedback carb and computer controlled distributor. I went boneyard searching and found a 83 f250 with a 300 but the carb was missing. I bought the ignition wiring harness and distributor off it. So I should be all set to convert this 85 over to the older duraspark set up except the carburetor. My engine and the 83 had a sort of square looking flange where the carb bolts on with a egr valve. I also saw a 1977 f150 in the yard that has a intake manifold with a round maybe 1-1 1/4 hole and no egr. The carbs on both the yard trucks are gone. I can go back and buy the intake off the 77 (round one) if I need to. What carb do you recommend for this? I see some on ebay but I don't know which is which. Is there a certain model # or something I should look for? Anyone out there maybe removed a intake and carb to go to 4 bbl or something and would sell me their original? I won't be hooking up the egr so maybe it would be better to get the intake off the 77 and get a carb for that? Please give me your advice/ input. Thanks, Greg

On my 1986 F150 with 4.9L engine, when converting to Duraspark ignition, I used a Carter YF from a 1970 F350 with 300 engine [calibrated for zero emissions and no EGR]. I have been pleased with the results. I did have to elongate the mounting holes... very easy to do with a rat-tail file.
