New Powerstroke owner

I am new to this forum. I now own a 1994.4 F350 crew cab 4X4 5 Speed truck. I was a 1993 Dodge Cummins owner and the only reason for the change is due to the need of a larger cab for the family. Family comes first and I was not going to go into over my head on the purchase of a truck that is only used a few times a month. I am just starting to understand the powerstroke engine and will be asking for help in the future. Currently the truck is all stock expect for the new down pipe, boost gauge and pyro. The truck is sitting on 315.75R.16 on a 4" skyjacker lift with 4.11 gears. Like what I have viewed so far by looking the forum over.

Thanks

Welcome, and congrats on the truck!
I think you'll find it's an awesome rig.
And as for the helping part, you could probably find someone to help with the wrenching too! Depends if there are others nearby...

My Dodge had a litte work done to it. I had upgraded to a HX35W turbo with a 12 cm ported and polished exhaust housing. A full 4" Stans Header exhaust system. The intercooler was a 1999 power stroke with upgraded intercooler tubing and a new BD intake elbow. The injectors were 150 horse upgrades. I had the pump turned up. The truck ran real good and was a lot of fun to drive.

My Ford was a little bit of a let down when I first drove it as my Dodge would have ran circles around it. The other problem first off with the Ford was that it quit me on the way home from buying it. The fuel filter canister blow a hole in the bottom (due to corosion) and it start leaking a lot of fuel and left me sitting along side the road.

I have the truck back up and running today. Now I will start looking the truck over to see what it needs. I have to address the steering because of a lot of road wander. The speedo is jumping and it is not a speed sensor (new) or a dash (replaced). I will look for wiring issues tomorrow, and then take a look at the tone ring as a last resort.

I do all of my own work, but allways need direction on something I don't know much about. The Ford is still more fun to drive due to having more room with the family riding along with me.

Your Cummins certainly had more power than your stock PSD. That can change! But they are very different animals for sure!

Also the comment about a rare truck I was thinking you said it was a DRW but I now see it isn't. oops. still though a CC 5sp is somewhat rare just not as rare as a CC 4wd duallie.....

Chris I couldn't reply to your email so I will try this way. Go to user Cp and in the options menu you can choose to receive email and private messages from other members. My reply is in blue

I have been reading through everything from this forum on the PSD trucks. As I had said in my first post that this 94.5 PSD is my first Ford diesel. I have looked over all of your pictures of upgrades that you have done to your truck, very impressive. I already have the intercooler from a 99 PSD Ford. How hard is it to find the Bank's intake/turbo tubing that you put on your truck? Do you know of anyone else how has some they want to sell? Did you notice an improvement by intercooling the truck?

Yes I notice nice improvements with the IC installed. Mainly I can stay in the throttle longer while keep egt's in check. you can buy a complete banks piping kit for $580 from here
Banks Twin Ram and Intercooler Pipes - 25970-X
Other than that you could use a late 99 intake Y and fab your own pipes if you have a welder.

I have the Edge program that I will put on truck one I get the computer flashed. Is the Edge a good program for my truck or for the PSD in general.

Edge is ok but not the best. for the best check out these two places

My truck already has the 3" down tube installed as well as boost and pyro gauges. Does the truck come factory with 4" exhaust. Should I remove the resinator and muffler, or just upgrade to 5" exhaust from the down tube?

The truck from the factory has 3.5 inch pipe. You can remove the cat and muffler if you would like. If you like it quiet remove the cat and the factory muffler flows well so you can leave that. Or get an aftermarket 4 or 5 inch system.

I am also looking at putting a gear vendor on this truck instead of changing gears over to 3.55 for better fuel milage at highway speed. Currently my truck has 4.11 gears with a 4" skyjacker lift and 315/75R/16 tires. I like the idea of having the gearing to pull if need be, but still being able to run at highway speed at a lower RPM on the engine.

A gear swap or OD unit will take a long time to gain any money back. With the tires you have and gears your effectively close to a 3.55 gear anyway. I would leave it as is

Just looking for some ideas as to what I should do to make my truck run better, or close to how my Cummins ran that this truck replaced.

Thanks for time

Welcome to the site Chris, You should love you truck, I too have a 94.5 and love it.

BTW, I see you are from KS, you should stop by the Kansas chapter and say hello, lots of good folks there and some great info!!.

Also, Try to get all your motor parts from Roberts Truck Center up on 135 north, you wouldn't belive the price difference on some things. And Ford buys most of thier parts from International and puts them in a ford bag anyways lol.
