My neighbor has an old Compaq, when I try to connect to my wireless network it tells me that I am using the wrong WEP key, although my network uses WAP and the password is correct. The network adaptor is an HP W450. I tried to update it and I cant seem to find any recent downloads for it. A setting maybe? Any help is appreciated.

It is probably just an older wireless card that does not support WAP..
Reset your Router from WAP to WEP and you should be good to go..
Most people do not need the extra security that WAP gives..

The only issue I have with this is if you are in an apartment complex. If you are on a lot larger than 1/4 acer you should be OK as your signal would be so weak that take forever to connect. I am on a 1/4 acre lot & I have to go outside near the property line to connect to either neighbor.
Are you trying to share your internet connection to the neighbors house?
That is the reason I have WAP, I live in an apartment complex. My router allows a guest log in password that allows a guest to access the internet and not have access to any files or printers shared on the network. I was going to let her do that until she can get on her feet (recently divorced parent, ex is a real POS).

You can give her access to the WEP without sharing files, printer, etc. etc. WAP is a pain in the butt to configure properly. Instead of replacing the computer for now, lose the internal network card, and replace it with a Linksys USB Network Adapter. Not only will it be faster, but being that the whole unit is tethered to a USB cable, she can move it around to get the best signal. I used mine for years when I was using my landlords signal in my Apt. He lives in the basement and getting a good signal was touch and go, then I got this unit:
I believe the bottom line is that she will just have to use her desktop for now. I have a USB dongle network adapter and none of the USB ports work either. WPA is more secure than WEP and I live in an apartment complex, that is why I use WPA.
Check the setup of the router and see if you can specify MAC address authentication. If so, enter hers in the table. Mac address authentication is the most secure, as you pre-authorize users in the router table. If it isn't in the table, it doesn't get into the router.
