Computer Question..Help

We recently upgraded to Fios and I am having a hard time getting our old laptop on line. We have a Compaq Presario 1692 with a wireless g 2.4 ghz network adapter. If I run a hard line to the laptop it connects fine. It will not connect via wireless. I have it set up correctly, entered the WEP and it says " you have joined the ad hoc network" but IE gives me the dreaded dns error. Any ideas???

Any and all help would be greatly apprieciated!!!

Do you have any other wireless device to see if that works??

I had a customer with FIOS that had a similar problem but in reverse..

The wireless worked, but the cable connect didn't..

Try a friends laptop and see if that connects.. If that doesn't then I would call Verizon and get the modem replaced..

My MIL spends EVERY WEEKEND with us and her lap top works. ( if anyone wants to volunteer to keep for the weekend, feel free to contact me!) I configured it for her. Just cant do my own!

Take a look at your firewall. See what the settings are.

He was asking what router you had..

I just said it was an all in one Modem/Router..

Verizon FIOS uses one modem that has a 4 port router with wireless..

So you probably do not have the password to enter the router..

If you call Verizon they could do that for you..

Try this..

Goto Start
RUN
Type in CMD then enter

A black screen appears.

Type in Ping www.yahoo.com then press enter
If you get a reply then you are connected to the internet through the router and it is probably some other issue..

Did you try other web pages?? Maybe your home page is down..
