big axle problem

I have a 1983 OFrd F150 with a 2.5 inch lift
Last weekend I completely trashed the front suspension.
twisted the front axle, crushed shocks, snapped front driveshaft, snapped both control arms after going airborn.
My question is where should I go from here?

what will be the easiest sold axle swap from my TTB?

What will it take to put a 1986 F250 axle under it?

What axle can I swap with and still use my lift if any?
thanks

It sounds like you like to go air born!!!!
What size tires and engine do you currently have in the truck and is it a DD "Daily driver".

The 86 F250 axel wont give you anything desired over your current set up because its basically the same besides the leaf springs. The biggest reason it sounds like your axel got trashed is becuse it bottomed out when you landed from being air born.

The most available axel to swap in the front would be a solid D44 out of the 73-79s F150 fullsize pickups or 78-79 fullsize bronco. You will need some fab skills and it wont utilize your 2.5 inch lift you already have. You will be limited of tires around 36 o 37 my opinion. I believe the pre 77 axels had stronger axel tubes than the 78-79 not sure.

You can go to a D60 front from a 1 ton "the best overall". Depending on where you live they can be hard to come upon, and a little pricy but well worth the coin. You will also have to swap the rear end over to match your front. These are leaf sprung factory, but can be run with coils and radious arms from the fullsize fords.

Thanks
NIck

needs pictures of carnage!

What you usin the truck for? If you're going airborne often I'd consider a long travel ttb setup for the jumping.

If you're makin a trail rig or whatever d44 up to 35-37inch tires, d60 for bigger.

'86 F250 is also TTB, and not much of an upgrade for a whole lot of work to make it work.

Right now I have 35x14.50 Super swamper tsl's
the engine is a 302 carb.

It wasnt that I bottomed out I dont thiink ..
What happened is that I have a lane goin into the creek with a shallow crossing but if you go to the right then its all bank and about 4 feet high with another little bank above that
i hit the first one and then the second and everything smashed I was goin pretty fast though

do you think i should just get another TTB or go for the solid?
I Have a 86 F250 that i was thinkin I could take both axles of of it and ut them under my 83 F150 frame

here is a pic of my truck flexin in the creek but i dont have a picture of damage

and its not a DD but I would like it to be able to go atleast 20 miles without problems

if the 86 F250 is also TTB then I should be able to just put it under my truck right?

I'm not lookin to upgrade but to just get it moving again

You wont be happy with another TTB even if its from an F250 they are basically the same axels and not worth the time of adapting the F250 TTB.

Personally I would just swap in a solid D44 from the years listed obove, If your only running 35s and a 302 I dont think it is worth the trouble of swaping in 1 ton drivetrain.

You will need the whole front axel and suspension from the solid axel pickup such as axel, radious arms/brackets, upper coil buckets, upper shock mounts, trac bar/mount and new springs, shocks, and all front end bushings.

If you decide to go this route post some pics for future referece also try fullsize bronco forum for more info.

I love it when I hear about TTBs that shatter.

83,
sorry for your loss but its honestly the best thing that couldve ever happened to you. For 35s swap in a D44 from a 78-79 F150 or bronco. Anything bigger than a 35" tire go straight for the jugular with a D60 from a 78-79 F250

to make that trucks ttb fit, you'd have to find a way to make the leaf springs bolt up, which they won't bolt straight up as the contours of the frame are different. If you have a welder and know how to use it it won't be that bad.....but i'd side with everyone else....buy a cheap d44 solid and swap it in...
