driveshaft questions

took the drive shafts out of my F-150 donor, c6/205, today to get ready for the tranny/tc swap into my F-250c6/203, looks like to me they are quite a bit smaller diameter than the 250s. not sure this swap will work. the 250 has a d44 front d60 rear can i find u jointd that wii fit the 150 driveshaft and the d60 yoke?

I have a pair of 205 yokes that should work for you if you're interested. PM me and I'll give you the details.

i have the yokes from the 205 but it is in a F-150. i want to put the 205 in a F-250. i understand that i will need to use the 150 driveshafts because of the length issue. will your yoke hook the d60 rear to the 150 driveshaft? i dont think i will have any trouble with the front yoke as both have a d44 front

I am simply assuming the problem you have is the size of the joint right?
The 9" axle might have a 1310 joint, and the D60 has the 1350?
Is the length correct? The d60 is larger, and might require a shorter rear shaft.
The slip joints should be interchangable, so you may try this, but if not, you can buy a combination joint. This style joint is not the best solution, but they do make them. It has a 1310 series on one side of the cross, and a 1350 on the other.
Try to see if the slip joint will swap out first, and if it does, you are in, if it does not, then consider the combo joint if the shaft is not too long.

The 205 yokes are from an F250. I can get the cross measurements for you if you need.

this truck is a total frankenstien. i didnt build it. wonder what the chance that the driveshafts in the 250 were originally from a 205 and they just had a 203 laying around so they used it? my main problem is using the smaller driveshafts. maybe my 250 rear shaft will reach the 205

The diameter of the driveshafts doesn't matter.

Measure the yokes.
The yokes should be something like 3.5"
3 7/8"
as long as the yokes are the same as the length of the u joints, then you're good.

IF not, then they make conversion joints, or you can buy new u joints.

I wouldn't think you'd need transfer case yokes, maybe an axle yoke, but that's it.

205 and 203 shafts will be a different length entirely, since the rear output of the 205 is so much more compact, (it does not have the differential back there) the driveshaft has to be longer.
Some 203's still used a larger u-joint just like a 205.
When you say that your problem is with using a "smaller shaft", what part of the shaft are you refering to? Is this just the tube diameter? A smaller tube diameter is not really an indication of strength. Larger diameter shafts are used to reduce vibration. Wall thickness is key here.
Is the size concern a joint issue, or just an overall length issue?

guess i will just have to see what i got when i pull the 203 out. also does the 205 bolt right in place of the 203? or will i need to actually swap trannies too?

You will need at the very least, the shifter and the linkage and frame mount.
You might even need the adapter and tail shaft from the 205 truck. And to say the least.... it be easier to swap trannys than it would be to swap tail shafts.
Assuming the 203 had a part time kit and the truck already had maual hubs, then you already have the hubs.

1979 Ford Bronco 4x4 - NP203 to NP205 swap.

yes the 203 has the part time kit and the front axle has the lockouts. i was going to pull the tranny and tc as a unit out of the 150 since it is a c6/351m and the 250 is a c6/460. but if i can pull just tc since both trannys are c6 that would be preferable except the front seal on the 250s c6 leaks a little. i was going to put a new front seal in the 150 c6 and leave the tranny and tc together since they have never been apart.
