I just bought a 2002 F250 7.3 PSD SuperCab which has the trailer connections in the rear bumper. Both the small and larger (round 8 pin?) that I can use for my camper. However, there is no signs of a brake controller ever being installed.
How difficult might it be to install a prodigy or similar brake controller?
Anyone have a link or instructions?
Is there connector that I can plug into? My old Tahoe and Suburban was rather easy.
Anyone have suggestions for a brake controller to buy?
There was a thread on this before and most 7.3 FTEers were using the prodigy. I think there was a wiring harness for under the dash in my glove box when I installed mine I assumed it came that way from the factory
You can get a pigtail that you wire to 4 wires coming out of the controller and then plug right into a factory connector under the dash. Not sure where they are at on the SD trucks.
For a brake controller I am using the next on up from the Prodigy, the P3. its awesome!
I imagine the directions on the website will tell me where to find the place to plug that pig tail/connector into. Prolly some place near the fuse block or something?
Pull the dash panel that you would remove to gain access to the fuse box. As you are facing the dash the pig tail will connect up and to the right it is kind of a pain in the A** to get to. Plug it in wire up the brake controller and you should be good to go. Also check under the hood fuse box and make sure the fuse's are in there for the brake controller and 12V hot line that also goes back to the plug..
Also Guys just FYI you can get the pigtails from local RV dealerships if dealer ships and parts store are out of them. We actually stock quite a few. They make life so much easier I hate having to wire a truck that doesn't have the tow package
