89 302 upper intake

Hopefully someone knows the correct size for the bolt that holds the upper intake to the manifold on the right hand side in the middle, it is hidden by the upper intake but you can get a long allen wrench to it thru the runners.
I have caused some damage to mine using a 3/16 allen. It looks like it should either be a 7/16 or 5.5mm.

Opps.
Can't really see the bolt head since it is in a van.
Thanks for the info.

Is it a special 5 pointed star or a 6 pointed star (Torex - T40?).
I do appreciate the help.

Great!
Now since I tried to use a 3/16" allen I can't tell what size Torex it is.
It has to be a T35 or T40.
Now if I can only find a nice 6" long T-handle torex I should be able to do something.

It should be a T40. Getting one to fit is tough.... the extensions for the bit shouldn't be over 1/4" drive, and even those are tough to fit between the runners. Best of luck.... I was able to buy a cheapy bit set from Lisle that had a smaller diameter T40 bit included.

I had to work on the same thing a couple of days ago. Can't remember the size but here is what I had to do to get the bit in there.
1) Use a 1/4 driver extension (prefer to be 6 inches long) If not I used a 1/4 extension then a 1/4" x 3/8" adapter then a 3/8" extension.
Use what ever you have
2) Put the bit in your left and jam it in between the upper intake and insert the bit into the bolt.
3) If you have someone to help you, have them approach that slot (in the upper plenum) with the 1/4" extention (or the combo) and insert it into the bit that you have in YOUR hand.
4) You'll have to do the reverse to get your bit and the bolt out of there.

Hope this was helpful!

I removed the bit from my 3/8 drive socket and put it into a 1/4 inch drive 1/4 inch socket. That way it was small enough to slip in between the intake runners. Best of luck..

Thanks guys. Finally got it!
Now I just have to work out all the other problems I'm having.

What I did was, take the insert out of a torex (T40) socket (3/8") and used a 5/16" 1/4 drive socket. Taped the insert into the socket so it wouldn't come out. Then put it in place, tapped it into the screw head (had to straighten out the screw since I had tried to use a 3/16" allen wrench first) and couldn't turn it so used a 1/2" wrench hooked onto the racket and it broke free.

Now I'm off to get out the broken bolts in the water pump (now timing chain cover).
