Iread on wikipedia that the 7.3 powerstroke was replaced by the 6.0 litre cause the 7.3 failed the emission, if that is right how come you guys still got them, have they all had to be modified ?
Lol, no. New emissions laws aren't retroactive. They apply to new model year vehicles when then are enacted. The 7.3 wouldn't pass the stricter emissions laws that were to be enacted so they had to come up with a new motor. Same reason the 4.9 Six isn't around anymore along with many other motors. Auto makers know years in advance what the new laws will be. For example, going to ULSD in 08 and having stricter soot and NOx requirements. There are stricter laws going into effect in 10 and 11 IIRC.
expo facto('after the fact"). Anything that happened before a new law or restriction is in place can't be penalized, but anything that happens after the enactment can be if caught. That goes for other things not just emissions.
My truck would never pass the emissions test for the 6.0 mutch less the 6.4. When I hit the go pedal there is a cloud of black smoke behind me. With my truck doing that, its a good thing my 7.3 is grandfathered in for the emissions test.
