I've had starters that drug when warmed up after driving, the cure was always a new starter. My '77 however, still has it's OEM starter exactly as Ford intended, it's never been moved, no doubt thanks in part to that robust "starter friendly" compression ratio.
PS, if buying one at a parts store, ask them to test it then & there right out of the box. It is why they have a test stand.

PRO TIP right there!! That goes for alternators and batteries as well!!
