I have a 1994 f150 i have only owned it for about 5 months and it started acting up on me a month ago.
I would drive it for a while than turn it off and it would not start again all it would do is make a loud click . about 1hr later she would start no problem. It would do this off and on. It eventually did this all the time so i could never turn it off when i went somwhere. now it wont start at all. I turn the key and all i hear is a loud click from the starter relay(solinoid). Today i went out and got a new solinoid and put it in and it stilll does the same thing. i dont think its the battery because I tryed a difrent one the a know works. the only way it will start is if a push start it.
no i have not done anything with the starter. i didnt think that would be the problem for some reason but i guess it could be. is there any way i could test it myself?
thanks
Sounds like the starter was getting to hot from the exhaust then finally died.
I have had this problem before with headers you might try to make some kind of heat sheild for your starter.
Not without removing it. In the truck, you can take a screwdriver and short the 2 large terminals on your starter solenoid and do the same thing. If it doesn't crank doing this then you have a bad starter.
