GM is having issues currently with the AFM. They are having to rebuild some engines that are making lifeter noise on start up.
I'm not sold on it at all.
The Tundra's 381 HP V8 gets much better MPG than Fords 5.4 that makes what 310 HP? Efficiency should be the way of the future with $4.00 a gallon gas right on the horizon.
Ford has work to do.
Hopefully in Ford's quest to squeeze more efficiency out of an outstanding power plant, (4.6 - 5.4) they don't turn it into a piece of junk.
i say give us some gas mileage. I have the v-6 and short of showing off, it will do what i need it to all day long. I know that certain people need more power for towing everyday and i don't have a problem with having a gas hungry monster engine optional. If Ford could stay around the 300 hp range and get 25 miles per gallon, i would think they'd sell like hotcakes. just my 2 cents.

Hate to be the one to burst your bubble, but the 08 Tundra 4wd Crew is rated 13 and 17 -- hardly much better than Ford. And the Ford is such a better made truck that it is ridiculous.
Oh, and if you really care about HP, my 06 is around 380 at the wheels (that's like 500 HP) and like I said, much better quality than any Toyota on the road. Think how much better the 09 is gonna be. Sorry Toyota, you still lose.
And I forgot, to the original poster, I'm not driving anything that goes 0-60 is 15 seconds, that's dangerous, I think I've ridden mopeds faster than that.
What people don't seem to realize is how much difference the 6 speed along with some better tuning is going to be in the 2009.

Probably not "much better" but considering it does get 1-2MPG better in nearly every published test with over 100 more WHP....I'll let you be the judge.

Very open to debate.....I currently own a sample of each. each has its pluses and minuses.

Nahhhhh, more like 475 at the crank using a 20% drivetrain loss.
And like I said....the "quality" does not overwhwhelmingly favor either brand.

With that I'll agree, the 6 speed has been needed for a while now.

I noticed your signature at the bottom of your posts and noticed that you have over 4,000 posts now but I have 1 big question. Why is it you have 4,000 posts on a site that you seem to hate what it talks about and you talk down to everyone that posts anything about what they think and believe in???
It would seem that you might be a little more happy on the toyota site than here just making everyone defend themselves. I only say this because it is just kind of puzzling to me and I sure do not want to poke fun at or upset anyone but it just seems odd. Again if I pissed you off I apologize simply just an observation.

I like this site, I have made a few real good friends here, I like Ford/Ford trucks.....Heck, CURRENTLY own 6 Fords. I just consider myself more open to other things and realize that no one person or especially vehicle is perfect.
I will admit, that when I bring up opposing views that are NOT in the Ford vs comp site, they are probably unwelcome....but if you notice, they are USUALLY in response to an ignorant/mis-informed post.
About that signature......if you honestly don't get it........well, maybe remove the blue blinders and take a look around.

Cannot **** me off, this is always fun for me.....stimulating, engaging fun.
I do go to a few Toy sites.....believe it or not, I enjoy defending Ford there when someone makes a dumb statement......
Nobody needs to defend themselves but would you rather people run around unchecked stating the Japanese are communist???
You are OK with people making ridiculous comments as long as it jives with your point of view???
The fact that Ford trades openly with many Japanese/Asian/foreign companies is OK, but God forbid an American citizen would dare trade......does that get through at all???
You being puzzled is ironic.....because I too am puzzled at blind loyalty and not being able to look at anything else.
But I digress, I should stay in the Ford vs Comp section.......surely you can understand the right to air opposing views there???
But then again, if people are allowed to say negative comments about other brands in the NON-COMP threads........I suppose some people just like to live in a bubble

I must say that is about the most thought out and well delivered answers I have read on this site yet. It is refreshing sometimes to have the other side of things brought up it makes people think outside the box from time to time. Thanks for the honesty in your answer.

You're welcome and your "thinking outside the box" comment may be one of the more accurate descriptions of what I attempt to do.
Some people enjoy it, a lot of people get offended.
If you have truly followed my posts......(stalker.....j/k ) I'm sure you'll find on a number of occasions that I hope Ford knocks it out of the park with this truck......but even you, in the past, fear that without the full line up of motors that it may be a triple at best.
I can't wait for the 6.2...........an UNRELIABLE source has it around 400/425 for HP and torque. If that's true, I will be testing Toyotas storied resale value.
I guess that last statement answers the OP's thread......Power for me baby!!
I never bought a truck worring about mpg. A truck is a tool and you have to pay to play. Needless to say I wouldn't complain about better mpg. Trucks have a lot going against them, there heavy, boxy with big V-8's and auto tranny. I sure don't like the idea of a cylinder deactivation system, just another complicated piece to break or give you problems.

I've had between 15 and 20 trucks over many years. My current F-150 gets better fuel mileage than any of the other full size trucks I have had even though it weighs more empty than most of the others did loaded. I think my mid teens in normal running and upper teens on the interstate is reasonable mileage. The best mileage I got with my other full sized trucks was 16 on the interstate down to 8.
I had a few "wheelbarrow" trucks (short bed Nissan, S-10, etc) that got better but I couldn't haul (about a wheelbarrow load) or tow much.
