Ok, i recently purchased a 1984 Ford F150 with 302, 4 speed with granny gear. I cut fenders and have 36s on it right now. Well i want to go to next step. I am planning to lift it 6 inch suspension and 3 inch body. My question is, to have a nice mud truck and that turns up and is strong, what motor should i go with?? What gear should i use?? Should i run military axles?? All suggestions will be helpful.

Well, as I see it now, your weakest link is the 302. It has little torque, which is very important when mudding. Maybe try to find a 351w to swap in there. The 4 speed w/ granny is a bulletproof tranny, I wouldn't worry bout that. If you do a lift, go with a quality kit, not blocks, and youll have to install a drop arm for the steering most likely.

I would only throw a bunch of money into a stroker 351w, if that was the biggest engine that would fit. Find a few odds and ends, and put a 460 in there.
hm... well. Whats the budget on this thing? it could go a million different ways, from 1000 to 10000 or more. On the cheap.... Throw a solid 44 front and a 9 inch (if it doesn't have one) with the rear welded up.
On the pricey...... ZF axles with a 514 bbf with a built c6 and a stak t case on r2 tractor tires.
cool, i know where a 460 is right now that i can get and i also can get a 351w.
Make sure you get all the "goodies" Dave was talking about to go with that 460, like motor mounts, transmission and whatever else it takes, and if you've got that kind of budget, stroke the hell out of that 460.
That's what I'm talkin 'bout! If you're going to go big -go big. Kinda like the 351w thing, which I mentioned because it was previosly and is a direct fit, but if you got the dough, make a bigger motor bigger. It's not like you need fuel economy for this toy.
