After running around for about a half hour this morning I stopped at the gas station to fill up. When I went leave I tried to start and nothing. All the normal lights on the dash were on and all i got was nothing. When i turned the key nothing would happen (no crank). After about 5 min of screwing around people were getting impatient at me taking up a pump and luckly there was a guy there who I new that was able to pull me back out of the way. After which I again tried to start and it started up no problem. Could this be the cps. there are no faults except for P1211 inject control pressure.
A bad CPS would still allow the engine to crank.? (Haven't experienced one going bad, yet.) Somehow you had a disconnect to the starter, possibly the gear shift lever wasn't correctly positioned or something like that. Could be a shift position switch is going bad. Just some ideas.
Could it have something to do w/ having installed my DP 5days ago. I would figure if it was this though it would have been the problem from the begining.

I know it wasnt the shift lever because i was able to pull my keys in and out. and if it was a shift position swith would I be able to take the keys out?
If your DP-Tuner chip isn't securely mounted to the PCM, it can also cause the same problems. Did you use anything to hold the chip to the PCM, or did you only plug it in when you installed it?
The shift position switch senses when the shift lever is in park or neutral to allow the starter circuit to work. It won't affect key removal.
To test the switch, remove the starter solenoid activation wire from the starter (or solenoid), connect a test light to it and ground. While holding the key in start position, move the shift lever through its range and you will see the light go on and off. It should be on in P and N only. If it isn't, then you need to check if power is going to the shift select switch. If it is, then that switch is bad. If not, than you have problems in the ignition switch.
If this was just a one time fail, I guess I would wait to see if it becomes more frequent. Could have just been a fluke.

Wolfe, I have a buddy that works for a villiage by me that has a 02 F450 with 7.3 and their truck done just this two or three times. Truck is 100% stock with only 15,000 miles. Still havent found the problem. Going in Tuesday for the CPS.

I probably will just drive it for a while and see if it happens again. I just hope it doesnt happen again in another inconvienent spot. It was embarrassing enough having to have a dodge 1500 (buddies) pull be away from 1 of the 2 diesel pumps w/ nothing but dodges and chevys watching.
And to answer another questio, yes I did use several strips of duct tape to secure the chip to the pcm.
I bet we all know the feeling of "being in the way". I was unloading cattle at the sale barn and the gasser wouldn't fire. Neighbor, with a Dodge, pulled me away from the dock. Turned out to be the ignition module.
If it happens again, and I hope I don't get bashed too much for saying this, with the key on use an old screw driver between the hot post on the solenoid and the little push-on-wire one. If that doesn't get it started, go between the two large posts. It will probably fry the screwdriver some but should get you started. But BE SURE THAT YOU ARE IN PARK OR NEUTRAL WITH THE PARKING BRAKE ON. Had two neighbors killed doing this to a farm tractor that was left in gear so I am hesitant to suggest it. But it does do the job if nothing else will.

Sorry for the dumb question but would rather be safe then sorry. Now is the solenoid up on the right wheel well or down on the starter. I was just looking at the starting circuit and didnt notice a "push on wire" except on for what was up on the wheel well. (Sorry Im not real good with the teminology.) Or would I just want to jump accross on the starter.
I have learned from other threads here that some years have the solenoid on the right fender well and some don't have a remote solenoid. They have only the one on the starter. I'm thinking that '02's had the one on the fender. Others could tell you for sure. I see your's is an '01 so maybe those too. If it has the remote solenoid, then that is where you would jump the connections. With the remote solenoid, there would be only one wire going from the solenoid to the starter.
Please, please, PLEASE be careful if you have to do this. Check to be sure that you are in park and then go back and check again. Am I paranoid? YES.
