Multiple CPS failures.

Well officially i am on my 4th CPS since i bought my truck about 5 years ago. The original CPS not changed by the recall was the best CPS yet, it lasted years! Now it seems like once it died the first time i cant catch a break no matter what CPS I've used to replace it with! Ive tried the original "black" CPS, I've tried the new International piece that GHIGG helped me get, and 2 Advance Auto's and surprisingly I've had the best luck spending $23 at Advance! But what im getting at is their something wrong that could be causing the CPS failures? Is their a CPS that works better then the others? I cant see spending another $60 for a CPS that lasted the shortest of them all. (about 3 months). I do everything correctly, even coating the CPS from water during installation. Its just got me so upset it seems once one thing went wrong with my truck its been a downhill loosing value and at this point a Chevy 1500 isnt far around the corner...

What are your symptoms exactly? Rpms during cranking? Do you have access to an AE? Why are you ending at the cps everytime? Little more info would be helpful.

I would be curious too? What is it doing? Is it not starting after sitting, or dying while driving? Are you running a tuner or programmer?

I have a stock truck basically and it seems to be a revolving pattern of the truck just dieing while im driving. The last two were just driving along and go to hit the fuel pedal to accelerate/maintain speed and it just sounds funny bogging out and wont accelerate anymore and i eventually roll to a stop and my truck shuts off or it shuts off while im driving and sends me on a white knuckle ride! Its like a gas vehicle just running out of gas. The time before that my truck just wouldnt start. Everytime i have a problem i come on here and someone says that magic 3 letters, CPS. Then low and behold i go swap it out before i try anything else and its always the answer...

And as far as i know i dont have access to an AE. Their are a few members within a few hours and im not sure any of them have an AE scanner. I mean the only thing that ever appears to happen is the CPS fails. Why so fast for me i dont know?

After you have it started, have you ever tried the suspect failed CPS again? Often times it may appear like a CPS but it really has more to do with something else. I have seen a shorted wire do this, moisture, and even a truck that would only start when warm with a certain CPS.

I had a friend who had an Edge programmer that could not get an OEM Black CPS to work in his truck. It always did fine when warm, but if it sat overnight it wouldn't start. Put in a gray CPS and it would fire right up. Leave the black CPS in and pull the Edge and it would start right up.

Sounds like you may have a similar issue. Might be worth trying if you have the old ones you have swapped out. They are easy enough to change.

X2 on the electrical short. Is it possible the CPS connector is bad? Changing the CPS is making good contact then some vibration after driving is making you lose contact or short the wires out? I had a heck of a time with my ICP connector after I did the 10K mod. Kept replacing ICP sensors but it turned out I wallowed out the contacts in the pigtail. I replaced the pigtail and have not had that problem since. Maybe tie a string to the CPS pigtail and try the ol' wiggle jiggle test while it's running. Be careful, the belt is awful close to the CPS! Regardless, let us know what you find as I am chasing an intermittent surging/stalling issue myself.

The IPR or Injection Pressure Regulator is screws into your hpop and is pretty self explainatory what it does. It would be a good idea to find someone with AE before forking $190 at one or rebuilding it

I also thought the CPS was my issue. It was especailly bad when it was moist out. Turned out my ICP connector was bad(performax gauge harness) Replaced and drove with AE hooked and nothing showed up. Never had a problem since then until last week when it snowed. Not sure if it was something else or the cps.

My suggestion is stop throwing money at something that MIGHT be the cause and find someone with AE. The guessing game will be over
