I haven't done this with a ford, but on my jeep you were much better off with a helper to hold the door in place.

A helper is a very good thing.
Small adjustments are all I can offer as a solution though.

Without lots of practice, hanging a door just takes time to get it right.
Also you may have better luck if you use blocking to support the door, moving the door in small amounts is a lot harder when someone is supporting the weight of the door, then trying to move it 1/8" and hold it there till the bolts are tight again.

Move one place at a time.
Like move the upper hinge where it bolts to the cab, then try the door again before you move the lower hinge.

I always try to get the margins around the door even before I try to get the face flush by moving the hinge where it attachs to the door.

Bolts through the hinge into the body adjust the margin around the door.
Bolts through the hinge into the door adjust the surface being flush with the rest of the body panels

those sound like better directions than I got from the body shop when i tried to adjust mine. put new strikers and all trying to get the door to close properly, but their directions wern't worth a dang. still haven't got the stinking thing right, but it's nice to know how to do it now.

I use a floor jack and an easy to make (out os 2x4s) "gutter" to hold the weight of the door w/o letting it slip off of the jack. If your trucks too tall you can pull the wheels off and get it a lot lower by setting it on blocks, plus it doesn't rock around as much. Especially if you set the frame on blocks instead of the suspension.
The jack supports the weight of the door and lets you make fine adjustments.

hey guys i got it on, thanks for the advice, but i used a sort of crane/pulley mechanism at my girlfriends ranch to hold the door up, that saved a lot of time and kept it level and i used air tools which really helped save time and energy, thanks dave for the advice, it closes real good and seals.
