Ok, strange problem... I have a DP tuner, with various setting, but for some reason when I start the truck "COLD" in my 120HP tune, it blows blue. While its blowing blue if I change to another setting like the 140hp or the 80hp etc.. (Basically anything other than the 120hp tune stops blowing blue). But, if I put it back it blows blue again. Kind of a strange one... Don't really know why... Once the truck warms up all is fine in the 120 setting.
Ideas?
This would be a good question for Jody when they are open again, after Easter. I can start mine in any tune and never get smoke like that. I am sure he can help you with this.
As Rick has said..start the truck in stock when cold..the injectors are being pushed too hard with cold thick oil and the motor is not warm enough to burn the oil like its supposed to..
EDIT: i see Diane is in...she will be here soon to explain it better...

That would be great... this doesn't explain why it only does this in the 120HP tune though...You would think that it would do it in the 140HP tune worse or the same then...

All the tunes are different. Your 120 tune might be putting more fuel or timing to your engine. There may be something about that tune that will make it do that. If you start your truck in stock when cold and after it warms up, and you can switch to your 120 tune and it does not smoke, you should be good.
I don't know for sure about this but I am talking/typing.

One of the main reasons Jody automatically puts stock on the F5 chips now is for this reason. I would start the truck in the 60 tow since that is your lowest setting.
At the time of starting the truck at cold temps the oil is not up to operating temperature. In the higher hp levels the ICP is asked for at a higher PSI then any of the others. Why it is not happening in the 140 is a strange one. Jody would be the person to ask this.
Blue smoke has been defined as oil in the fuel. Why is this happening? Well, it could be the injectors themselves or the o-rings. Run a contribution test first before tearing into the injectors. Doing this test will help you/us diagnose the issue better. Have you checked to see if there are any stored codes in the PCM with a code reader?
Let us know what you find.

No codes, and it alsmost feels like it runs a little bit rougher in this setting. Maybe you can elaborate on the "Contribution test" I have never heard of that before. After running for about 2min or so all is good. The truck runs great otherwise, in fact I am VERY impressed with the tuner. I am just trying to figure out this issue... If it were oil getting past the injectors then logic would tell me that it "SHOULD" do this in all of the tune options.
You are starting it in the 120 so after a while of running in that tune the oil is emptied out from sitting. A contribution test is for the injectors and will see if the injectors are good or not.
Give Jody a call on Tuesday. He is out of town and will be back in the office on Tuesday. Shoot him an email also and ask him. he will be the best person to ask.
